College Station doesn't get enough credit for its outdoor spaces. Between the A&M campus grounds, the Brazos Valley's nature preserves, and Bryan's parks, there's no shortage of spots to roll out a mat — or just breathe in fresh air after a long day.
1. Lick Creek Park
Lick Creek Park is the crown jewel of College Station outdoor recreation. With over 5 miles of trails through East Texas bottomland hardwoods, it's a stunning backdrop for a morning flow or a restorative stretch after a long run.
Best for: Solo practice, walking meditation, restorative yoga
Parking: Free at the main lot on Rock Prairie Road
Pro tip: The elevated boardwalk near the creek is a perfect flat surface for a quick vinyasa if you bring a mat.
2. Bee Creek Park
A beloved neighborhood park with plenty of open lawn space. Families, students, and dogs coexist peacefully here. Bring a blanket or thick mat — the grass is typically well-maintained.
Best for: Gentle yoga, stretching, partner practice
Pro tip: Go early on weekdays to beat the afternoon heat from April through October.
3. Veterans Park & Athletic Complex
The open fields here are massive and well-kept. While it's primarily used for sports, the perimeter green space is quiet and level. The soccer fields early Saturday morning are practically empty.
Best for: Dynamic practice, sun salutations, group sessions
Address: Harvey Mitchell Pkwy, College Station
4. Texas A&M Campus — Simpson Drill Field
The iconic Simpson Drill Field is one of the most recognizable spaces on the A&M campus. It's a wide, open rectangle of manicured turf that sees yoga mats on warm spring mornings. Non-students are welcome to use the open green space.
Best for: Morning flow, campus views, A&M-adjacent Instagram content
Pro tip: Avoid during Aggie game days — the area gets busy fast.
5. Stephen C. Beachy Central Park
Central Park in College Station is underrated. It has open grassy areas, covered pavilions, and a peaceful pond. It's a great spot for restorative or yin yoga when you want a relaxed environment.
Best for: Yin yoga, stretching, mindfulness walks
Bonus: The covered pavilions are ideal if afternoon clouds roll in.
6. Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater & Trail
The creek trail running through this corridor is popular with walkers and joggers, and the amphitheater area has open grass perfect for small group sessions. Our community pop-up events have been held in this area more than once.
Best for: Pop-up yoga, small group sessions, trail meditation
A Note on the Texas Heat
If you're practicing outdoors in Brazos Valley, be realistic about the season. March through May and September through November are ideal. June through August requires an early start — think 6–7am before the heat index climbs.
